The New Beginnings project was successful in its application to the Big Lottery and was granted funding for the next 3 years commencing 1st July 2008. This is the continuation and expansion of an existing project to help homeless people or people at risk of becoming homeless in Burnley secure or retain their homes and improve their lifestyles. The project will provide a package of intensive support helping the beneficiaries to address all aspects of their lives in parallel including lifestyle, career and health issues through individual plans. The beneficiaries experience barriers in their lives including substance and alcohol misuse, lack of skills and financial management, homelessness, mental health problems and unemployment.

The project will provide drop in facilities, shared lunches, access to employment searches, training including basic IT skills and support group activities such as food and exercise sessions to help beneficiaries overcome their difficulties. New Era will also provide access to mainstream services including drug and alcohol dependency treatment, benefits, healthcare services, suitable furnishings, learning and job searches by signposting beneficiaries to existing service providers such as Burnley House ( PCT Drug and Alcohol Service ), Open Door (recycled furniture) and Jobcentre Plus. Beneficiaries will be referred to the project by the police, local housing providers, voluntary organizations and healthcare professionals where there is no other service able to support them.
