The award aims to:

  • meet the basic training needs of potential childcare workers;
  • provide a framework for candidates to gain the knowledge required to become useful childcare workers;
  • give candidates the opportunity to prove their competence in a childcare setting;
  • promote good practice, positive attitudes and response to differing cultures, gender and abilities;

This award provides an ideal introduction to the world of work with children. It is suitable for a wide range of candidates, from secondary school pupils in Years 10 and 11, to mature students, members of minority cultural groups with English as a second language, and those returning to work after a career break.
